KANA KAWANISHI is pleased to announce Takashi SUZUKI Solo Exhibition kontrapunkt at SUNDAY from December 6th (Saturday) through December 28th (Sunday), 2014.

This exhibition will be held in commemoration with the title Kontrapunkt (PICNIC #09) exhibiting the BAU series in a publication, released from the German publisher, Trademark Publishing in Frankfurt.

Takashi SUZUKI was born in 1971 in Kyoto, Japan. He graduated from the Photography Department of The Art Institute of Boston. He was a guest student in the photography class of Thomas Ruff at Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, and also worked as the assistant for Thomas Struth during his years in
Germany. Rather than 'what' the actual photographic subject is, his interest always have been towards 'how' the photographic subject are perceived. Suzuki’s core motivation towards creation is to explore new definitions of seeing photography.

In his latest BAU series, he uses a very common daily consumable item for its vehicle, a washing sponge. Using this daily ready-made consumable product, his artwork suggests various compositions which stimulate peoples’ minds uniquely. Whilst one sees a boat in a certain shape, another would suggest it resembles a temple, which both were beyond the artist’s imagination.

I believe daily objects are symbols and reflections of capitalism, materialism, economical and political activity - as well as a concrete form of our lives' and society's desire. It promotes a differentiation of context, instilling potentially unexpected propositions. — Takashi SUZUKI
